If you live abroad you may wonder where and what Southampton is like. The transport system in Southampton is indicative of many large cities in England and Europe. It is close to two motorways M3 and M27. It has an Airport (Eastleigh Airport). Eastleigh is about 3 miles north of the main city centre. It has a large railway station connecting Southampton easily to London, Portsmouth and Bournemouth. It has a coach station that enables very cheap travel to other parts of the country. Rail is usually more expensive, although if you use the Internet reasonable prices can be obtained easily especially if you are under 16 years old. If you live with a host family you will probably be near one of the main bus routes to town and school. The buses are noisy, but cheap and convenient.
